Back to My Mac redux
Back to My Mac redux
To reluctantly provide what may be the final words on the “Back to My Mac” mess, this week’s TidBITs has a good article on the whole thing. On the heels of coverage started by us here, continued here and then responded to, pretty much, by Apple here, the TidBITs article is entitled “Punching a Hole for Back to My Mac.”
The article summarizes the large amount of work that it often takes to get Back to My Mac working in the first place. It then goes on to talk about Apple’s ex post facto suggestions in a section entitled “Apple's Lacunae in Security for Back to My Mac Documented.” Its unfortunately accurate conclusion:
Apple's note amounts to a statement like this: "Back to My Mac is very secure between locations and doesn't disclose any private information; but the endpoints are very weak and we didn't provide any help to you to make the endpoints stronger automatically."
It's a big admission, couched as advice.
