DoorStop X: "Best-of-breed"
DoorStop X: "Best-of-breed"
We usually try to not focus on our own products here, but Macworld magazine’s review last week of our recently-upgraded DoorStop X Security Suite is pretty hard to avoid. The well written 4.5-mice review provides a great and accurate overview of what we proudly feel is one of the pivotal Mac Internet security products on the market today. We believe that a review of any such Mac Internet security product should be written up here (see, for example “No Phishing”), and only wish that there were more of them (really).
The Macworld review summarizes the Suite’s key products (the DoorStop X Firewall, Who’s There? Firewall Advisor and eBook “Internet Security for Your Macintosh” on which this blog is based) and then goes on to highlight the Suite’s new features (specifically Location sets, detailed log searching capabilities and direct integration with this blog; other new features are listed on our Web site).
We’re especially gratified that Macworld “gets it” when it comes to the goals of the Suite. In particular, the review focuses on the ease-of-use and learning aspects of the Suite, which we feel lead to greater understanding and fewer mistakes securing your machine, which in turn lead to increased overall security. In particular the article includes screenshots with captions such as “DoorStop X’s simple interface allows you to easily open, close, or limit access to your Mac’s ports” and “Who’s There? makes your firewall log files understandable.” Exactly!
The article goes on to say “These tools will not only protect your Mac from possible infiltration, but also give you detailed insight into what’s really happening...” Finally, we’ll let the article’s closing paragraph speak for itself:
DoorStop X Security Suite 2.0 is a best-of-breed program that not only performs the important task of decoding OS X’s built-in firewall utility, but also helps you understand its process. The efficient software, coupled with the suite’s educational components, make DoorStop X Security Suite an excellent way to secure your Mac—and learn valuable information at the same time.
