Dilbert on security
Dilbert chimed in today on the Internet security issue, with a strip entitled “DilMom.” The strip is currently available here.
The strip begins with the computer saying “Your security software is out of date,” followed by “Would you like to spend the rest of your natural life trying to figure out how to update it?” and then “Or would you prefer to let hackers steal your identity, drain your bank accounts and destroy your hard drive?” Dilbert’s mom responds with various exclamations, the last of which is an emphatic “I need more choices!”
We all know the additional choice presented should be “Or perhaps you might want to consider getting a Macintosh.” :) Beyond that, however, how did we get into this situation in the first place? Does it maybe have to do with user focus, or lack thereof by certain computer companies? The tremendous complexity of computers and the Internet? The morals and ethics of our (world-wide) society?
On the other hand, maybe all these questions are just way too “heavy.” After all, it’s just a comic strip, right?
