Security update addresses AirPort insecurity
Apple today released its latest security update, addressing in particular the recent AirPort security issue. After installing the update on Mac OS X 10.3.9 or 10.4.8, a user of Apple’s original AirPort card should no longer be subject to the potential attack discovered as part of the Month of Kernel Bugs project.
The release also addresses a number of unlikely-to-occur security issues. It does not seem to address a somewhat serious corrupt disk image issue also found by the Month of Kernel Bugs project over the Thanksgiving holiday week. To address that issue for now, users should disable “open safe files” in their Web browser (which most of us should have done anyway, as indicated in an early blog entry on various malware threats).
