Although this blog tries to provide timely Macintosh Internet security news, we’re usually not first with that news. But today’s an exception. We have it on good authority that Open Door Networks (hey, that’s us) will later today announce a set of major revisions to their full line of Internet security products, from their flagship DoorStop X Security Suite to the book on which this blog is based. Check their news page at http://www.opendoor.com/news.html later in the day for all the details.
One of the reasons it’s so appropriate to “pre-announce” Open Door’s new releases here is that one of the main new features of their updated product line is direct integration with this blog. From each of the products, you’ll be able to directly search this blog for items of interest about a particular Internet service or concern, providing even more up-to-date information and advice than is available in the products themselves.
For example, let’s say the DoorStop X Firewall blocks and logs an access attempt to a particular service, such as the recently resurfaced attack against the Windows version of Norton Anti-virus. The Who’s There? Firewall Advisor will display information and advice about the access attempt, but there could be additional, more timely information available on the blog. So, from Who’s There? you’ll be able to search the blog directly and have any related entries displayed in your Web browser. You can of course also continue to directly search the book for information about the access attempt as well.
Speaking of which, as we mentioned, the book (for which this blog was originally started) is being updated too. So stay tuned to this blog for “sneak peeks” about some of the key updated areas. And of course about the many other new features of the new products as well.
